West Java International Airport (BIJB) is located in Kertajati Subdistrict, Majalengka Regency, about 68 km from Bandung City, the capital of West Java Province. Strategically located around the developing area of West Java, the accessibility of Kertajati Airport is guaranteed by the existence of highways and trains connecting from Bandung, Kertajati, and Cirebon and also the Cileunyi – Sumedang – Dawuan (Cisumdawu) toll road to connect Bandung and Kertajati; The Cikopo – Palimanan (Cipali) toll road that connects Kertajati and Karawang Industrial Estate; and also the direct route to Cirebon port.
Kertajati Airport as a whole is built on an area of 1,800 ha and the construction is divided into three stages. Currently the construction has been completed in phase 1A with a terminal area of 96.200 square meters. The ultimate airport terminal that carries the concept of a peacock reaches 209.500 square meters.
Since it was inaugurated last May by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), and officially operated in June 2018, Kertajati Airport now has one runway of 2,500 meters. This runway will increased to 3,500 meters so that wide-body aircraft can be landed such as Airbus A380-800. At Ultimate Phase the airport will have two runways.
With this capacity, Kertajati Airport can serve 5.6 million passengers per year and will be able to accommodate 18 million passenger traffic the following year. Seeing the needs of the community who are increasingly interested in air-based transportation facilities, the airport with an investment of Rp 2.6 trillion can certainly guarantee meeting the needs of air travel in the future.
The three-letter code KJT airport, in the beginning of this operation is targeted to open 14 routes, both domestic and international. Including flight services, umroh worship can already be felt from the airport of West Java’s pride at the end of this year.
The high mobility of people will automatically bring the movement of goods. At the beginning of the operation, this airport also provides cargo where the initial operation of 0.004 million tons can be served. While the overall cargo in BIJB will be expanded to reach 1.5 million tons by 2045.
