Umrah Becomes Marker of Kertajati Airport Serving International Flights

BANDUNG, – West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati, Majalengka Regency will open its first international flight service on Saturday, October 13, 2018. The Kertajati – Madinah route will transport pilgrims from West Java and parts of Central Java.

“Happy on the 13th, there will be awaited flight. Because there will be a flight (at Kertajati Airport) with an extraordinary share,” said West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil in the West Java Information (JAPRI) event held at Gedung Sate , Bandung City, Tuesday 9 October 2018.

This international flight service will be a good sign in the future for the airport that has been inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on May 24, 2018. West Java with the largest population in Indonesia has around 41 million Muslims. The number of Muslim population in West Java reaches 97 percent.

Kertajati Airport which is strategically located because it is located in the middle of a developing area of Cirebon, Indramayu, Majalengka and Kuningan (Ciayumajakuning) has a market share of umroh which is quite basic every year. Looking at the data of the Ministry of Hajj and Ummrah of Saudi Arabia, the public’s interest to leave Umrah every year in the Ciayumajakuning area continues to increase. For example in 2015 (117,469 worshipers), 2016 (118,218 worshipers) and 2017 (140,153 worshipers).

“So Muslims in West Java are good. Fly direct flight from Kertajati to Madinah, hopefully this can continue to add other flights in BIJB,” said the man who is familiarly called Kang Emil.

Emil also invited the people of West Java who want to carry out their ‘religious tourism’ to optimize Kertajati Airport. This airport can be an option after the increasingly crowded Soekarno-Hatta Airport serves flights to Medina, especially Umrah.

“So you don’t have to go to Cengkareng,” Emil added.

The President Director of PT BIJB Virda Dimas Ekaputra also confirmed the readiness of Kertajati Airport to carry out umrah flights on October 13. The three letter code ‘KJT’ airport is planned to serve international flights to Madinah once a week with travel umrah travel agents, Dream Tour.

“God willing, we are ready. Two weeks ago we did a simulation, inshallah, on October 13 we will start the first international flight of Kertajati – Madinah with a transit in India,” said Virda.

Kertajati Airport readiness to serve international flights has also been through several stages of verification by the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub). Verification to see supporting facilities and facilities such as immigration, for people who want to travel abroad.

“Our terminal facilities are ready. Now, how can we optimize that the airport has been operating both domestically and internationally to the public,” he said.

According to Managing Director of Lion Group Capt. Daniel Putut Kuncoro, Kertajati Airport can be the center of air transportation activities from West Java to the Holy Land. As the biggest airport in West Java, the potential of people who want to travel abroad can be served optimally.

“On October 13 tomorrow this is a plan that came true. With various kinds of obstacles, we see Kertajati as our new spirit for the center of air transportation activities,” explained Daniel. He continued, Lion Air will use Boeing 737-800 max aircraft with a capacity of 180 seats. Transit is done at Trivandum International Airport, Kerala, India because of long-haul flights with refueling needs.
