REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) has encouraged Kertajati West Java International Airport to function as an e-commerce logistics distribution center. Apart from the large capacity of the airport, which can accommodate 1.5 million tons of cargo, this airport access is also supported by two large infrastructures in West Java. Among them are Patimban Port in Subang, West Java, and access to the Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan or Cisumdawu Toll Roads which will connect the cities of Bandung and Kertajati.
"So that there is integration between airports, toll roads, and ports. Thus it is able to reduce the time for delivery of goods. Moreover, the area around Kertajati Airport is an industrial area that is spread from Cikarang, Bekasi to Karawang and surrounding cities. Especially the area around Kertajati Airport. such as Cirebon and Indramayu are known to have various handicrafts that can be exported, "said Bamsoet after visiting the office of a courier service company PT Dirgantara Pos Intimoda (Diposin), at the Soekarno Hatta Airport Complex, Cengkareng, Wednesday (11/11).

The chairman of the 20th DPR RI assessed that by operating Kertajati Airport as an e-commerce logistics center, Indonesian MSMEs could more easily export their products. Due to the speed and ease in the export process and other permits. On the other hand, it can also turn on activities at Kertajati Airport so that it is not lonely or even suspended animation as it is today.
"The online trade (e-commerce) is currently hitting millennials. Only with cellphones and various information technology devices, they can get consumers to various parts of the world. The task of the government is to help them market their products through easy expeditions," said Bamsoet.
The Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that since the inauguration of the operation on May 24, 2018, the number of flights at Kertajati Airport is still far from expectations. In fact, Kertajati Airport is the second largest airport in Indonesia after Soekarno Hatta. Until the end of 2019 alone, there were only 20 aircraft movements recorded per day on average.
"When the Covid-19 pandemic hit Indonesia in March 2020, Kertajati Airport operations continued to decline. Even in April 2020 it stopped operating because there were no flights. Making Kertajati Airport a logistics center for e-commerce is a wise and solution choice so that the construction of this airport is not in vain. in vain, "concluded Bamsoet.
